Outdoor Room magazine commissioned me to style Olympic swimmer, Michael Klim's outdoor entertaining space. His Brighton house had only just been built, so the outdoor area was quite bare. Working with a blank canvas, my brief was to choose stylish furniture + accessories that would create an inviting outdoor setting and appeal to the celebrity couple. I came up with a palette of hot pinks and oranges.
As the contemporary patio is predominantly made up of grey stone and cement, I chose a contrasting wood dining table to bring some warmth to the space. I paired the table with some vibrant orange metal Tolix chairs to add a pop of colour. I knew Lindy, Michael's wife, would love this punchy colour because her personal style is quite strong and self-assured. Bold colours also tend to work well on the pages of magazines and grab readers attention.
Next I added some curvy cane lounge chairs, for a contrasting texture and subtle tropical vibe. Luxurious patterned Missoni cushions, on bench seating creates an inviting spot to read and relax. The rich hues in the cushions tie in with the vivid orange chairs. Tropical Frangipani trees and the cool, paired-back grey stone is the perfect minimalist backdrop for my colourful additions.
The Klim family were effortlessly relaxed in the front of the camera. Mikkel captured some gorgeous shots of Michael, Lindy and their children, Stella and Rocco having fun and hanging out together.
