'Working for Real Living magazine meant coming up with lots of craft projects, as readers enjoyed getting creative and saving money at the same time.
For this 'Weekend Makeover' I chose to transform my own living room. We packed a lot of ideas in to this feature. Projects included making a round fabric ottoman, decorating a sideboard with a dandelion decal, cutting paper art works for the wall, making cushions and painting a canvas.
One of my favourite projects was up-cycling the retro armchair, which we found at a local op shop. We sanded and waxed the wood, then had new pads cut to size, and made covers from blue patterned Amy Butler fabric.
Not one to shy away from colour, I thought I'd use this opportunity to try out a fresh lime green for the walls, teamed with turquoise and white highlights. I loved the result because the room felt uplifting and spacious. The pretty patterned Amy Butler fabric cushions added a splash of contrasting colour, while the simple bentwood coffee table, sideboard and white Ikea sofa were great affordable basics'.
